‘Un bel été quand même.’

Un bel été quand même is the title of one of the works from the Mekhitar Garabedian exhibition. In a newspaper, Garabedian links images from an old tourist guide to Lebanon and Syria to the handwritten texts from the anti-war film Les Carabiniers (1963) by the French director Jean-Luc Godard. The title beautifully encapsulates the summer at the Centre for Fine Arts where you can admire iconic designs by Belgian designers, Italian dresses, a sensual video and a provocative series of photographs alongside the social art of Garabedian and our artist-in-residence Pascale Marthine Tayou. His work Africonda, a mythical monster made from entwined pieces of colourful textile, and Fashion Street have set up home at the crossroads between fashion and art.
