‘Opening Week’

A Room Full of Voices

Love, friendship, the social power of relationships and couples in art – these are the themes running through Bozar this autumn. Our opening week makes them immediately  visible and tangible. Over fourteen days, we introduce an artistic programme that connects different art forms. It’s all in the mix.

Outside established patterns
French novelist Edouard Louis and philosopher-sociologists Didier Eribon and Geoffroy de Lagasnerie are not a couple but a throuple. They see friendship as a liberating, inspiring force that transcends the sexual revolution of May ‘68. They launch the season with an inspiring and stimulating text, written especially for Bozar. At the same time, discover the great film-maker Apichatpong Weerasethakul’s first virtual reality work and immerse yourself in a fascinating experience that explores the depths of dreams and memories.

Love applied to art
The (artist) couple Hans/Jean Arp & Sophie Taeuber set the tone in the first half of the 20th century. They lived and worked together and pushed the boundaries between the ‘fine’ and ‘applied arts’. The exhibition Friends, Lovers, Partners celebrates their versatility.

Multiple duos
We trace the same line in music, because making or experiencing music is the ultimate collective event. And who better to illustrate this than the Jussen brothers, the pianists who excel at duets? A broad bandwidth of musical repertoires fills the opening week, with two classical concerts, a club night with alternative jazz from London and Persian chants.

Staging the Concert is a brand new initiative. Bozar has commissioned artists to create concerts that offer a completely different kind of spatial experience. Robbrecht en Daem architecten launch the project with Béla Bartók’s Music for Strings, Percussion and Celesta (1936) in a transformed Henry Le Bœuf hall.

Sunday is Family Day! Starting with HOP FROG Fanfare on the Rooftop and continuing with workshops and a Dadaist brass band.

And finally, just like every last Thursday evening of the month, we pull out all the stops with Bozar All Over the P(a)lace - Nocturne Arp.
