A+ Architecture in Belgium, in collaboration with Bozar, invites Ensamble Studio for a lecture in Brussels on September 24, 2024.
Ensamble Studio was founded in 2000 by architects Débora Mesa and Antón García-Abril, who work together as a creative duo (binomial). Their working methodologies are innovative: experimenting with construction techniques and proposing new typologies.
Their projects address a variety of topics, such as the Anthropocene and prefabrication, as well as the integration of off-site technologies. Among their built projects are the renowned Hemeroscopium house (Madrid, 2008), and more recently, Can Terra (Menorca, 2018) and The Tent (Costa da Morte, 2020). They have established a new research and production center in Madrid, Ensamble Fabrica, to support their ambitious goal of optimizing the quality of architecture while making it more affordable.
Ensamble Studio has received numerous international recognitions such as the 2022 American Academy of Arts and Letters Award and the 2019 RIBA Charles Jencks Award. Débora Mesa is also a design critic in architecture at Harvard GSD and was previously a critic at Pratt GAUD (2021-2022), the Ventulett Chair in Architectural Design at Georgia Tech (2018-2022), and a researcher at MIT (2013-2018), where she co-founded a lab for prefabrication prototypes (2012).
