An evening with Apichatpong Weerasethakul for an in-depth conversation about his artistic practice. A career that spans over two decades and encompasses cinema, photography, installations, audio projects and his most recent dive into the world of virtual reality.
Apichatpong Weerasethakul (Bangkok, 1970), currently based in Chiang Mai, is recognized as a major international filmmaker and visual artist who began making films and video shorts in 1994. Celebrated around the world for his tranquil and lyrical works, his works have won him widespread international recognition and awards, including the Cannes Jury Prize in 2021 for Memoria. He also won the Cannes Palme d’Or in 2010 with Uncle Boonmee Who Can Recall His Past Lives.
The talk will be moderated by Jean-Pierre Rehm. Jean-Pierre Rehm is a French film critic who has been the director of FIDMarseille from 2002 till 2022. After studying modern literature and philosophy, he has been active as a lecturer of theory and history of art and cinema, curator of exhibitions, writer of various film studies and contributor to the Cahiers du cinéma.
