‘Portrait aja monet’

The Afropolitan Festival 2025 presents three evenings dedicated to poetry, activism, and music. American poet aja monet, whose album When the Poems Do What They Do was released last year, explores themes of Black resistance, love, and the relentless search for joy. She blends jazz and poetry in a dreamlike, surreal, and activist context. Nominated for a Grammy Award, she has made a mark in the world of poetry with collections such as My Mother Was a Freedom Fighter. Her upcoming book, Florida Water, celebrates the transformative power of poetry. aja monet will participate in a Sofa Session on Friday, a Meet the Writer event on Saturday, and will close the festival with a concert alongside ESINAM on Sunday.
