‘Memoria - Apichatpong Weerasethakul’

25 + 26
Oct.'24

This event has been organised in the framework of the Close-up: Apichatpong Weerasethakul.

With Memoria (Jury Prize at Cannes in 2021), Apichatpong Weerasethakul presents one of the most undoubtedly fascinating works in contemporary cinema.

Memoria is a meandering, sensory journey through Bogotá and beyond, crafted in a way only Weerasethakul can achieve. This unique journey belongs to Jessica, who is invited by a new friend to an archaeological excavation site. There, she finds herself captivated by a mysterious sound that she seems to be the only one to hear. With the help of a young sound designer, she tries to reproduce this sound – is it a hum? An explosion?

Apichatpong Weerasethakul (Bangkok, 1970), currently based in Chiang Mai, is recognized as a major international filmmaker and visual artist. Celebrated around the world for his tranquil and lyrical oeuvre, his works have won him widespread international recognition and awards, including the Cannes Palme d’Or in 2010 with Uncle Boonmee Who Can Recall His Past Lives.
