Ragini Trio ft. Bojan Z & Sawani Mudgal

“This drummer, composer and jack of all trades is a unique, creative and rigorous musician who already stands out at such a young age and has huge growth potential.” (Flemish Culture Prize)

Lander Gyselinck and his Ragini Trio have made jazz with an Indian twist their trademark. So it is easy to see why Sawani Mudgal, a Hindustani vocal music virtuoso, accepted to join them for this concert. Also on stage is the Franco-Serbian master improviser Bojan Z.

The music critic of Flemish newspaper De Standaard had the following to say in his review of a concert by STUFF, Lander Gyselinck’s band: “Can someone please prevent Gyselinck from ever returning to his home planet? He was outlandishly good.” A conclusion that had already been drawn as early as 2015, when Gyselinck won the MIA award for Best Musician. And that same award was granted to Gyselinck twice more in the years following thereafter! But let’s not forget that Gyselinck is just 30 years old. Which is why he was a logical choice for our Young Belgian Drummers series, which puts homegrown drum talent in the spotlight. For this concert, Gyselinck will be performing with his Ragini Trio, whose trademark is jazz with an Indian twist. So it is easy to see why Sawani Mudgal accepted to join them for this concert. The daughter of the outstanding Indian vocalist Madhup Mudgal is also a Hindustani vocal music virtuoso. Also on stage is the Franco-Serbian master improviser Bojan Z, who is equally comfortable playing Indian raga.
