In 1929, at the newly inaugurated Palace, a major retrospective was held in honour of James Ensor. The political, economic and cultural world of the time gathered around a huge banquet to pay tribute to one of the greatest living painters. Today, 75 years after the master's death, the new exhibition James Ensor. Maestro, organised as part of the Belgian Presidency of the Council of the European Union, shows all facets of his talent. The gala dinner was therefore an evening full of references to that famous banquet in 1929, almost 100 years ago.
Bozar makes it an annual tradition to thank patrons and trusted partners for their loyal support during its gala dinner. Guests were welcomed to the Royal Salon by performers from Revarte. The Henry Le Boeuf Hall was dressed up for a musical reception with Bart Rodyns on harmonium, thanks to our partner Piano’s Maene. He played James Ensor's unique repertoire. Chef Jean-Michel Loriers and partner Moët Hennessy pleased everyone's taste buds during the cocktail and dinner in a beautifully decorated Horta Hall, co-designed by florist Thierry Boutemy. He also created a monumental still life inspired by Ensor. As icing on the cake, the Four Aces Guitar Quartet brought a wonderful musical addition to the dessert.
Presenter Caroline Veyt moderated the evening while artistic performances were interspersed with speeches by Christophe Slagmuylder, CEO and artistic director, and Isabelle Mazzarra, chairwoman of the Board of Directors, among others. During dinner, guests were able to participate in an auction by Pauline Haon of Fine Art Group.
Bozar would once again like to thank all the participants and partners for their presence and support, and to all the teams who contributed to this wonderful evening.
