Wound - Arthur Sukiasyan
(AM, 2019, 25')

WOUND - is a documentary of a strange beauty, with a tender touch of nostalgia and a heartbreaking sensitivity to the things lost forever.

Arthur Sukiasyan is a documentary film maker from Gyumri, Armenia. In 2017 he was one of twelve directors selected to participate in the AFS International Documentary Workshop at the USC School of Cinematic Arts in Los Angeles. Wound is his most recent documentary short and won the Best Film Award of the Focus Caucasus Competition at the CineDOC-Tbilisi International Documentary FF (2019).

Great Expectations - Sona Simonyan
(AM/GE/FR, 60', 2019)

Gyumri, the second largest city of Armenia, is still recovering from the disastrous earthquake of 1988. Life’s hardships and shared memories from the past bring together parallel ‘worlds’ of protagonists in a city, where melancholy lingers and humour is the only respite.
This film integrates portraits of people, who refuse to accept the present, and live with nostalgia for the past, as mutual common trauma is still alive.

Sona Simonyan was born in Gyumri, Armenia in 1992. After graduating with a bachelor degree of journalism at Yerevan State Linguistic University after V. Brusov, she started her master degree at the Georgian Institute of Public Affairs (GIPA), the faculty of journalism, where she won the GIPA DocU Prize for Short Documentary. Just after coming back to Armenia, she has been working as a video editor at "Boon TV", and recently joined Chai-Khana platform as an Armenian video manager.
