It's hard to imagine, but in the time preceding WWII, Vivaldi’s music was rarely performed. Since then, musicologists turned to transcriptions and embarked on the diligent search for lost scores. With success, as work by the Italian master continues to be discovered to this day. As recently as 2005, when a Dixit Dominus, attributed to Baldassare Galuppi for centuries, was re-attributed to its rightful author. Vivaldi wrote this scintillating piece for the Ospedale della Pietà, an orphanage for girls. Vivaldi's most recent rediscovered Magnificat - he wrote no fewer than three - also features on the programme. The master interpreters on duty are the energetic Giulio Prandi and his colourful Coro e Orchestra Ghislieri who defend the lesser-known Italian repertoire with gusto.
