In the presence of Andrei Ujica

On  21 December 1989, Romanian president Ceausescu’s last televised speech was interrupted by the roar of the crowd and the TV broadcast was cut off. The television station was taken over by “the people”. Two years later Ujica and Farocki released an essayistic documentary that investigates the TV footage as well as hundreds of personal archives, examining the way a moment in history is captured, mediated and reconstructed. The film analyzes history through moving images and its implications with respect to issues of representation, communication and veracity.
