Screenings & Masterclass

Andrei Ujica  (Timisoara, 1951) is a professor of Mediology and the author of essential films considered as great classics in film history and as world references in the field of found footage. Videograms of a Revolution (co-directed with Harun Farocki in 1992) has become a milestone in terms of the relationship between the media and political power in Europe at the end of the Communist era. Out of the Present (1995) deals with the prolonged space journey of Russian cosmonaut Sergei Krikalev. It was compared to major films such as  2001: A Space Odyssey or Solaris and is the best-known non-fiction European film of the 1990s. The Autobiography of Nicolae Ceaușescu (2010), which rounds up the trilogy dedicated to the end of Communism in Romania, has garnered numerous awards worldwide. The screenings will be followed by a Masterclass during which Andrei Ujica will discuss his editing methods and will unveil a few minutes of this latest project, Things We Said Today, the archival reconstruction of the Beatles’ most famous North American appearance.

The introductions and Q&A with Andrei Ujica as well as the Master class will be moderated by Dominique Nasta, professor in Film Studies at the Université libre de Bruxelles and author of Contemporary Romanian Cinema: The History of an Unexpected Miracle.
