"When the Birds Leave" Album Release Concert

We have learned that drummer Billy Hart and the bass player Drew Gress, who were to perform at the jazz concert on 23 February accompanying the saxophonist Robin Verheyen, will be unable to be present due to health problems. Fortunately, Billy Hart has taken the trouble to recommend the drummer Eric McPherson, member of the legendary Fred Hersch Trio, to replace him. Drew Gress will be replaced by Clemens van der Veen. We thank you for your understanding and wish you an excellent evening to the sounds of "When the Birds Leave", in the company of exceptional musicians.

“Verheyen brings a fresh, ensemble-driven approach to contemporary jazz”
JazzReview

Robin Verheyen seems to have been around a long time, yet the young saxophonist is not yet 35. In recent years he has branched out internationally, as demonstrated by this quartet that is nothing less than a genuine all-star band.  With pianist   Marc Copland – who can accurately be described as a mentor for the saxophonist – the musical association is long standing. While bassist Drew Gress is one of the most sought-after session musicians on the New York scene, drummer Eric McPherson (Jackie McLean, Fred Hersch, Pharaoh Sanders,...) needs no introduction in Belgium.  Top international musicians with a Belgian flavour.

Recently the quartet recorded a new album "When the Birds Leave".  It'll be released by Universal Music on January 26th 2018.

The last two concerts of Robin Verheyen at Bozar (“TaxiWars” (2016) and “Monk 100” (2017)) were both sold out.  Don't say we didn't warn you.....
