Breaking news: the young violinist Svenja Van Driessche is now presenting the programme with which she will participate in the Queen Elisabeth Competition for Violin in May 2019. Liebrecht Vanbeckevoort, himself a laureate in 2007, will accompany her on the piano. Together they will perform violin sonatas by Poulenc and Beethoven, but also Poème, op. 25 by Ernest Chausson, a virtuoso masterpiece that the French composer wrote at the request of Eugène Ysaÿe. In 2016 Van Driessche graduated from Antwerp Conservatory with a master’s with greatest distinction and congratulations from the jury. Since then she has performed on stage in concert halls such as the Royal Albert Hall in London and the Salzburger Festspiele. She grew up in a musical family: “My father, who is sadly no longer with us, was one of the best horn players in Belgium”, she said in this interview. “Just like my mother. But the love for the violin all came from me.”
