‘The Shine of Day - Tizza Covi & Rainer Frimmel’

Featured as part of the Close-up on Tizza Covi & Rainer Frimmel, The Shine of Day (Der Glanz des Tages) tells the story of two 'actors' who meet. One is young Austrian theatre actor Philipp Hochmair working for the most important theatres in Vienna and Hamburg.; the other, Walter Saabel, comes from the circus, and has been fighting bears. When Philipp meets Walter, with whom he starts an ambiguous friendship, he is reminded that life is more than a stage. While following them for a few weeks in the wintry cities of Hamburg and Vienna, we get to know a little more about the complex relation between life and art. 

In The Shine of Day - which won two awards at the Locarno International Film Festival - Covi and Frimmel again mix fiction and documentary in an ingenious way, by letting the two completely different showbiz men play themselves, and giving them the space to freely improvise.
