‘Round Table: Filming in time of crisis: the situation of Palestinian cinema nowadays’

Annemarie Jacir is a Jordan and Palestine-based independent filmmaker and screenwriter. Named one of Filmmaker magazine’s 25 New Faces of Independent Cinema, two of her films have premiered as Official Selections at the Cannes Film Festival, one as an Academy Award qualifier, and one in Venice. Her first feature film, Salt of this Sea, was Palestine’s official entry for Best Foreign Language Film at the Oscars and was also the very first feature film directed by a Palestinian woman. When I Saw You is her second feature film. Jacir is co-founder and chief curator of the groundbreaking Dreams of a Nation cinema project dedicated to the promotion of Palestinian cinema. She teaches screenwriting and works as both an editor and a film curator, actively promoting independent cinema.

(Amer Shomali is a Palestinian multidisciplinary artist who uses painting, digital media, films, installations and comics as tools to explore and interact with the sociopolitical scene in Palestine focusing on the creation and the use of iconography from the Palestinian revolution.  He holds a Master’s degree in Animation from the Arts University Bournemouth, in the UK, and a Bachelor’s degree in Architecture from Birzeit University, Palestine. He was born in Kuwait in 1981, and is currently based in Ramallah, Palestine.)

Hind Shoufani is a Palestinian filmmaker and poet. A Fulbright scholar with an MFA in filmmaking from NYU, she has been involved in film/TV and literature for seventeen years. She has worked as a producer, director, editor, translator and performance poet in Beirut, Damascus, Amman, Dubai, NYC and other places. Trip Along Exodus is her first feature-length documentary.
