Nacida Sombra

On the occasion of International Women’s Day, the brilliant dancer and choreographer Rafaela Carrasco will be showcasing her new creation. Nacida Sombra (Born in the shadows) weaves a subtle and powerful counterpoint through flamenco dance, song and the poetry of four authors of the Spanish Golden Age (16th-17th centuries): Teresa de Jesús, María de Zayas, María Calderón and Juana Inés de la Cruz. Whether they challenged the Inquisition through their writing, scandalised puritanical minds with their incandescent dances, denounced the injustices done to women or campaigned for their access to education, these four figures from the past are invoked on stage so that the echo of their struggle – still highly relevant today – resounds within us. To the rhythm of the four phases of the lunar cycle, in a ballet between light and shade, Nacida Sombra immerses you in the world of each of these creators and discloses their astonishing strength.
