A chance meeting at a dinner party is at the origin of ‘Boyhood’ star Ethan Hawke’s film about Seymour Bernstein. When he turned fifty the American pianist and composer brought an end to his highly successful concert career to concentrate on teaching. Hawke fell for the charms of the lively octogenarian and a particularly close friendship was born. In this documentary you see how Bernstein teaches Hawke to cope with his stage fright. Bernstein is not just a gifted musician and teacher; he is also a fount of knowledge. Seymour: An Introduction sheds light on an underrated musical personality and demonstrates that in addition to being an actor, director, screenwriter and novelist, Hawke is a pretty good documentary maker as well.
