At the crossroads between choreography, film and the visual arts, María Jerez's work explores the relationship with the spectator. Her performance Yabba is an encounter with otherness, a process of disidentification and alienation, a confrontation with the undefined. It is a cosmos with its own order, rhythm and moving systems, an invitation to enter a new logic. The performance proposes a constant transformation of a mutant cell, a living scenography, an artificial landscape. Yabba exists, changes, paints its own colours and unfolds its materiality. A state of constant change, it demands an attentive gaze, fuelled by the inability to name what we see.
From February 2024 onwards, we will organise a performance every month in the heart of the Centre for Fine Arts: the Horta Hall. Horta's stately hall will come alive again in its purest form, in an intimate interaction between movement, architecture and music. Keep an eye on our website for more updates.
