Hildegard von Bingen und Hermannus Contractus
The chants of the renowned mystic Hildegard of Bingen echo those of the composer and scholar Hermann Contract (1013–1054), the thousandth anniversary of whose birth was celebrated in 2013. When Hildegard discovered this music in the monastery of Disibodenberg, it became a source of inspiration for her own work. Later, she was to present a manuscript, now known as the Dendermonde Codex (ca.1175), containing works by both Hermann and herself, to the Cistercian monastery in Villers. At BOZAR, the German ensemble Ordo Virtutum will perform a selection of gems from this extraordinary musical source.
