‘A New Gaze On Spanish Cinema’

Spanish cinema is probably one of the most internationally recognised European cinemas. Pedro Almodóvar, Carmen Maura, Rossy de Palma, Carlos Saura, Penélope Cruz, Víctor Erice and Alejandro Amenábar are just some of the names shaping contemporary independent Spanish cinema. As part of the Spanish Presidency of the Council of the European Union, Bozar is offering a rich programme designed to highlight the artistic talents of today and the emerging figures of Iberian cinema.

Highlighting the importance of women filmmakers in the international film landscape, the A new gaze on Spanish cinema programme is a journey through independent Spanish cinema conceived and imagined by women. We will be accompanied on this journey by four female directors. The four titles, selected at the best international festivals, offer us four women's views of a modern, mystical, and rural Spain.
