A vast Rwandan coltan mine and Burundian village turned techno scrapheap hacker encampment sets the scene for this non-conforming musical adventure. When an intersex runaway and an escaped coltan miner find each other through cosmic forces, their connection creates a virtual offspring with the potential to ignite a revolution. From their camp, they attempt a takeover of the authoritarian regime exploiting the region's natural resources – and its people.
Saul Williams is an American poet, musician and actor. His acting career includes collaborations with Marc Levin, Slam (Sundance's Grand Jury Prize and Cannes Camera d'Or in 1998), and TEY with Alain Gomis. The soundtrack of Neptune Frost is an original composition by Williams.
Anisia Uzeyman is an actress, playwright and director. Born in Rwanda, she studied drama at the Superior School of Theater in France. As an actress, she played in Alain Gomis’s TEY, where she met Saul Williams. Her directorial debut Dreamstates was shot entirely on iPhones.
The screening will be followed by a conversation with Anisia Uzeyman and Saul William, moderated by Lyse Ishimwe (founder and curator of Recognition).
Also not to be missed as part of our Saul Williams focus, the screening of Slam (Marc Levin) on May 21 '23
This event is a co-creation with Recognition (instagram)
