‘The Music Room – Satyajit Ray’

The screening will take place for free on the roof of Bozar.

The Music Room is a luminous picture of the clash between tradition and modernity, and a showcase for some of the most popular Indian musicians of the time. Undoubtedly Satyajit Ray's most beautiful work.

As part of Close-up : Apichatpong Weerasethakul, the filmmaker has curated a selection of films to (re)discover. Among them is one of his favorites : The Music Room by Satyajit Ray and you have the opportunity to watch it in an exceptional setting on our rooftop.

Huzur Biswambhar Roy resides in a dilapidated palace by a wide river in the late 1920s. He is the last of a line of prosperous zamindars from 19th-century Bengal, now facing dwindling finances as their era fades. His cherished music room, once a venue for grand concerts, now stands as a mere echo of its past glory.

Satyajit Ray (1921-1992, India) is undoubtedly India's most widely known director. He founded Calcutta’s first film society (CFS) in 1947 and made his acclai med debut with Pather Panchali (1955) which led to the 'Apu Trilogy'. His notable films include Jalsaghar (1958), Charulata (1964), The Chess Players (1977), and Agantuk (1990).
