OF, Aripi, Practica, Cartea Verei & When Saturn Returns

The Moldovan shorts selection represents the global picture of Moldovan cinema today and all its ways to find a place in the European film industry. The first animation OF (2018) is supported by the newly created CNC (Centre National du Cinéma et de l’image animée, 2015). Aripi (2019) is an independent animation made by a private studio, that never claimed any support. The 2018 short Practica is the first co-production between two independent producers. Cartea Verei (2018) and When Saturn returns involve several known Moldovan musicians, creating an added value to the film and attracting a new public.

OF - Vlad Bolgarin
​​​​​​​This is the story of a grey man who is always sighing. Living in a grey city, covered in smog, he keeps on sighing until he dries out and becomes skin and bones. But even in the darkest corners of the soul, there is light and color.

- Vlad Bolgarin was born and raised in Chișinău, Moldova to a family of musicians. He graduated from the Academy of Music, Theatre and Fine Arts from Chișinău, with a Bachelor's degree in Film Directing & Editing (2016), and a Master's degree in Animation Directing (2018). He also founded VOLT Cinematography – an independent film production company.
 

Aripi - Dmitri Voloshin 
Aripi tells the story of an astronaut who, as a child, dreamed of flying and being free. And now he seems to be flying in the sky, but he is actually locked in the capsule of a spacecraft. One day, minor problems lead to bigger problems, causing the spaceship to lose control and collapse on Earth. And now the astronaut will once again spread the wings of his dreams and return to childhood.

- Dmitri Voloshin (1974) graduated from the Polytechnic University in Chisinau, Moldova. In 2002, Dmitri founded Simpals, a company engaged in the production of commercials and later in 3D animation. The studio produced five animated short films that participated in the most prestigious animation festivals and won over 50 awards. In 2019, Simpals Studio announced the release of the first VR animated film in its portfolio, Aripi.
 

Practica (Daydream) - Igor Cobileansky
Marta, a young and enthusiastic girl from a provincial town, travels to a big city to make her dream come true. This is going to be her first big life experience.

- Igor Cobileanski was born in 1974 in Comrat, Moldova. He made his debut as an actor before graduating The National University of Theatre and Film "I.L. Caragiale” in 1995. He is a director and writer, known for The Unsaved (2013), Eastern Business (2016) and Hackerville (2018).

Cartea Verei - Mihai Bruma & Ștefan Nahaba
A young writer struggles with personal life and a weird relationship with his girlfriend. Things get back to reality when his sister shows up.

When Saturn Returns - Mihai Bruma
While working in the store Radu prepares for that night’s concert. Everything would have gone smoothly, if it were not for the girl he saw in the store. He recognized her after 16 years. His first love.

- Mihai Brumă (1989) graduated from the Academy of Music Theatre and Fine Arts. Being a student of Sergiu Prodan, he learns the tricks of the trade. Graduating with a film directing degree, Mihai starts to work in post-production getting the know-how of the post workflow. Through the help of workshops and masterclasses he gets interested in screenwriting and learning the language of cinema.
