Lieve Blancquaert
In the monologue Misschien Marieke we enter the mind and world of a young woman who has recently given birth and is at the point of making the most important decision of her life. “I have thought her to smithereens,” says the mother. “Dreamed her to bits. But there she still is: small and safe, unbreakable. A girl. It's a girl and they say she looks like me. I look like my father, not my mother. If I look closely. In poor light. Then I see it. Then I see my father, deep within my face.”
Lieve Blancquaert and Greet Jacobs have written a play about a mother who gives up her child.
“Misschien Marieke is a new mother and child: with both feet in the vernacular soil of the Ghent school, but also with a documentary style that overplays all the clichés about poverty for deep understanding. […] Some plays have been celebrated as powerful tragedies for less. This one deserves a season lasting far beyond the elections.” (Wouter Hillaert – De Standaard)
