‘Matthias Goerne & Leif Ove Andsnes’

In the wake of his ‘Schubertiade’ with the French quartet Quatuor Ébène, the German baritone Matthias Goerne is returning to Brussels in the company of another welcome BOZAR guest: the Norwegian pianist Leif Ove Andsnes. Together they are performing Franz Schubert’s three great song cycles during three successive concerts. Their expressive rendition of Die schöne Müllerin song cycle gives special prominence to the symbolic journey by a traveller who is fascinated by a miller’s beautiful daughter. The Viennese composer’s piano accompaniment evokes an entire landscape, with flowing water and turning millwheels. The singing is lyrical and heartbreaking.
