In 2016 Norwegian saxophonist and composer Marius Neset released the album ‘Snowmelt’ on the ACT label ̶ a collaboration with the London Sinfonietta chamber orchestra, and its most ambitious project to date. In the eleven-part suite Neset builds bridges between improvisation and symphonic music. Though many composers had attempted this before him, he was the first not to become mired in genres and perspectives. Neset steers his challenging project past all the pitfalls and utilizes all the qualities of the symphony orchestra. He is nothing if not special. A few years ago the American jazz magazine Downbeat entered Neset as the only European musician in its ‘25 for the future’ list. At BOZAR, the Belgian National Orchestra is up for the challenge.
