Fifty for the Future Marathon
To mark their fortieth anniversary, the legendary Kronos Quartet launched Kronos Fifty for the Future in 2015: a contemporary repertoire of 50 compositions with the aim of keeping the tradition of the string quartet alive and current. Kronos commissioned composers worldwide, resulting in a rich and diverse repertoire. It includes works by luminaries such as Laurie Anderson, Philip Glass and Terry Riley, but non-Western composers including Tanya Tagaq, Man Wu and Kala Ramnath are also amply featured. All pieces are accessible for free via the Kronos Quartet site.
In collaboration with Ars Musica, Bozar welcomes no less than 27 string quartets and 3 ensembles; from beginning musicians and conservatory students, to experienced amateurs and seasoned professionals, ... Together, they pay tribute to the special tradition of the string quartet and play pieces from Kronos Fifty for the Future, spread throughout Bozar. Closing will be the Kronos Quartet itself. Expect music by Reich and Riley, work by Jlin as well as arrangements by Sun Ra and Nina Simone.
