Jean Rondeau, the young French baroque star with a wavy mane, grew into one of early music's most exciting personalities after winning the International Harpsichord Competition in Bruges in 2012. With the Goldberg Variations, he has resolutely chosen one of Bach's absolute masterpieces. The work continues to occupy him: ‘I think I'll be working on the Goldberg Variations all my life. They're an exercise in returning again and again to the unadorned truth. To vulnerability. They're an ode to silence.’
