Beethoven talks - online event
Author and journalist Gaea Schoeters likes to rail against the world, but always with love and through the medium of art. She writes novels, poetry, opera librettos, screenplays and works for theatre. In the series of interviews titled From Ear to Here on the occasion of the exhibition HOTEL BEETHOVEN, she looks at Beethoven’s artistic and political world with reference to the work of the Czech writer Milan Kundera, in whose novels The Unbearable Lightness of Being and Immortality the composer appears as a character. Gaea’s own work is a similar quest for style and beauty in which commitment to a cause is never far away. For Passa Porta she curated the Dead Ladies Show, for example, which seeks to shed the spotlight on unjustly forgotten women from all disciplines. As the point of departure for this evening of literature and music she chose Beethoven’s Piano Sonata No. 31, op. 110 and his String Quartet No. 16, op. 135 — two works of significance for Kundera also.
