Pure Beethoven
Just before the Beethoven year gets underway, Frank Peter Zimmermann and Martin Helmchen are embarking on an international tour dedicated to the complete sonatas for violin and piano by the composer whose 250th anniversary is just around the corner. At BOZAR, the duo concentrates on three of the ten pieces which make up the body of work: Sonatas No. 5, 6 and 7. With its charming theme and expressive modulations, the Fifth, also posthumously referred to as ‘The Spring’, is without a doubt the best known of the three. Involving even more contrasts, Sonatas No. 6 and 7 belong to one and the same group of works dedicated to Emperor Alexander I of Russia.
