Making the European cultural heritage visible and establishing a dialogue between this heritage and our present and future: This is one of BOZAR’s core artistic missions. The Mediterranean Sea region is a theme running throughout our multiannual programme. This almost mythical sea flows between islands and peninsulas, connects three continents and is the birthplace of empires and civilizations. After Cyprus (2012) and Greece (2014), we are casting anchor in Malta. The exhibition Land of Sea couples prehistoric images and the island’s Christianization under St Paul with the present day issue of refugees. Malta is open to the world. It leads Europe in the field of gender rights (LBGTIQ), for example. The project Future Fabulators – Beehive, a cooperation with the Council of Europe, brings together ideas for an ideal future on a digital platform. Aren’t islands – 500 years after Thomas More’s Utopia – the dream location for formulating images of the future?
