‘Ethics of artificial intelligence’

Information Technology (IT) is significantly impacting on our daily life. The perception of  the world around us, our interactions as well as the understanding we have of our existence and our responsibilities are going through a radical transformation. Figuring out the extent to which artificial intelligence is actually improving our lives and the ability of digital technologies to lay the foundation for a new didactic approach, are just two examples of the unresolved issues at the center of the scheduled debates. Given the importance the topic has for the future, the views of scientists will be enriched with those of other specialists so as to give us some fresh insight on what really matters today.

Maurizio Ferraris is an Italian philosopher currently Professor of theoretical Philosophy at the University of Turin, where he leads the LabOnt (Laboratory of ontology). Editorialist of  La Repubblica, he is also director of the Rivista di Estetica, co-director of  Critique and of the Revue francophone d'esthétique. Among others, he is also Directeur d'études at the Collège International de Philosophie and visiting professor at the École des Hautes Etudes en Sciences Sociales in Paris and in other European and American universities. He boasts about fifty books translated into various languages.

Antoinette Rouvroy, doctor of legal sciences at the European University Institute (Florence, 2006), is a qualified researcher of the FNRS at the Center for Research in Information, Law and Society (CRIDS). She is interested in the relationship between law, methods of construction and risk, science and technology, and neoliberal governmentality. In the last years she focused mainly on the digital turning point and its applications (autonomic computing, ambient intelligence, datamining) for the legal regimes of protection of privacy and personal data. Lately; she  has been developing a new line of research around what she called algorithmic governmentality.
