Gitanos del Mediterráneo
The gypsies of Spain and Asia Minor live on different sides of the Mediterranean. Yet, these two peoples belong to the same ethnic and cultural family. Formed at the Seville Flamenco Biennial, the supergroup Gitanos del Mediterráneo brings together the very best musicians from these two cultures. Born into a long line of famous gypsy musicians, Dorantes has dramatically transformed the world of flamenco by introducing the piano and adding classical and jazz influences to the traditional jondo. The Taksim Trio lends these same influences to Ottoman music as it brings together three superstars: the clarinettist Hüsnü Senlendirici, Ismail Tunçbilek on the baglama and Aytaç Dogan on the qanun. Together they demonstrate how much their respective traditions have in common.
After the concert, Dorantes and the musicians of the Taksim Trio invite you to a talk entitled: “Flamenco: cultural heritage of humanity, vehicle for dialogue and intercultural integration.” Amongst others, the artists will speak about the Gypsies of the Mediterranean Basin and how their music and identity have evolved over the years.
