The Strangers, a new music theatre production, is based on two cult novels : L’Étranger, the existential classic by Albert Camus, and Meursault, contre-enquête, the Goncourt Prize winning work of the Algerian author Kamel Daoud, written in response to Camus’ novel. The stage direction of Johan Simons presents a political narrative,  transporting the audience from the occupied Algeria of 1942 - via the cultural conflicts of the present day - to a future vision of an Islamic Europe. Featuring the renowned Asko|Schönberg Ensemble under the direction of Reinbert de Leeuw, this new work of musical theatre both praises and questions our cultural values. The critically acclaimed video artist Aernout Mik has created a new work as part of this production.
