‘Debate during the finissage "A lighthouse for Lampedusa"’

8 Sept.'16
- 22:00

Since 19 June 2016, there has been a lighthouse on the roof of BOZAR. A Lighthouse for Lampedusa, the work created by the artist Thomas Kilpper to mark World Refugee Day, serves as a reminder that the real stakes of the migration crisis in Europe are primarily human. Through his work, Kilpper expresses his desire to see a real lighthouse erected on the island of Lampedusa, thus making it possible to avoid the loss of life of thousands of people who have risked the waters to flee war, persecution or poverty. After BOZAR, the lighthouse will be exhibited at the Kunsthaus in Dresden, Germany.

After the premiere of Gianfranco Rosi’s film Fuocoammare (Golden Bear at the 2016 Berlin Film Festival), Karl Van den Broeck will be moderating a discussion between Mieke Strynckx, VRT journalist and 2015 winner of the Belfius Press Prize, Micaela Casalboni, artistic director of the Compagnia del Teatro dell'Argine, Ali Nazar Nejat, journalist, and Shamsia Ahmadi, who worked for national, international, governmental and non governmental organisations - both of them are Afghan refugees from Baghlan.

The debate will be led in English.
