Day 2: Los Nuestros

On the second day of the Bruselas Flamenco Festival, the spotlight is on ‘Los Nuestros’ or ‘homegrown’ flamenco musicians. Fun fact: there was a time when the Brussels flamenco scene was considered better and livelier than the scene in Seville. In the period from the Sixties to the Eighties, Spanish immigrants liked to end their long working day with a meal in the many restaurants in the Marolles neighbourhood in Brussels. They were known to host legendary events, with plenty of festive singing, guitar music and percussion. Patricio Grande (guitar) developed a repertoire based on these lively encounters and will be performing a fresh new mix of jazz, classical music and folk at BOZAR. Irene Álvarez (dance) and Maria Marín (guitar, vocals), meanwhile, will revisit the Spanish roots of flamenco, with the music of Domenico Scarlatti, Isaac Albeniz and Feliu Gasull.
