Every one of us keeps a mental dairy, whether we do so consciously or not: memories, dreams, emotions, but equally scents and sounds. For twenty years, Mokhallad Rasem has collected personal notes which form the basis of this monologue. The scenery involves simply an empty bed on a floor covered in paper and photos as he tells his life story, which starts in 1981 in Baghdad. Rasem claims that his life is no more interesting than anyone else’s, but it does offer us a glimpse of thoughts and feelings that are universally recognisable.

“Don’t expect a documentary story or commentary on political situations, but a journey through the metaphors of the Arabic language,”  says Mokhallad Rasem.
