Debate
In the Canvas series Kinderen van het verzet, thirteen children of resistance fighters talk about how the legacy of the Second World War has defined their own lives, exactly 75 years on from the day of liberation. They talk about their parents’ acts of resistance and how they were sometimes drawn into them, about loss and pain and unresolved war traumas.
But how did the winners of the war got lost in remembrance? Is there such a thing as a duty to remember? And what is the role of politicians and historians?
In response to Kinderen van het verzet, BOZAR and Canvas will host a debate on Monday 2 December. Various historians and opinion makers will examine this highly topical issue. Featuring journalist and historian Marc Reynebeau (De Standaard), Professor Kaat Wils (KU Leuven), Doctor of history Koen Aerts (UGent) and Professor Pieter Lagrou (ULB). Annelies Beck will moderate the discussion.
