Jean-Philippe Rameau - Pièces de clavecin en concerts

Jean-Philippe Rameau dedicated most of his time to opera. While the Pièces de clavecin en concerts is his only collection of chamber music, it sets the standard exceptionally high. He demands of his musicians a chamber-music interplay reminiscent of the string quartet. Melody lines are continuously passed back and forth between instruments. No easy task to get a piece like that, which involves four very different instruments, right in terms of sound, balance and character. A good thing, then, that harpsichordist Bruno Procopio has surrounded himself with three extremely sensitive musicians. Flautist Anna Besson we know from the entourage of star tenor Reinoud Van Mechelen. Gambist Mieneke Van der Velden breathes refinement into every note she plays, and the seasoned Patrick Bismuth has received widespread praise for his natural violin playing.
