‘B'Rock’

“We’ve waited almost twenty years for him: Ulysses has finally returned, more human and poignant than ever, to form, under the inspired auspices of René Jacobs, the Monteverdi event of the year.” It is in these complimentary terms that the magazine Diapason described the recording of this work by René Jacobs, who was still with Concerto Vocale at the time. The conductor knows his subject like the back of his hand, this musical vision inspired by Homer’s Odyssey, composed by Monteverdi and staged for the first time in Venice in 1640. The Ghent-based conductor is back in the company of B’Rock with whom he recorded an excellent version of Handel’s Orlando and which he frequently conducts on stage. In other words, with such a great artistic complicity between the conductor and the orchestra this interpretation of Monteverdi’s masterpiece promises to be quite something…
