In Trial About Fake, the Brussels-based documentary maker Manu Riche recounts the trial conducted by the Chinese authorities in 2012 against Ai Weiwei, one of the country’s most influential artists, but a critic of its politics and a source of embarrassment to the regime. According to Riche, the only pertinent way of documenting this sensational trial is to reproduce it exactly inside the cosy walls of a theatre. On 09/05/2015 at the KVS, fifty surveillance cameras will randomly record the images of this pretence of justice.
An installation derived from the performance will be shown at the Centre for Fine Arts Brussels, as well as Riche’s filmed portrait of the renowned Chinese artist Ai Weiwei. The film shows a 24 hour shot of the artist’s studio desk.

During this talk, organized on the day of the exhibition opening, Manu Riche will explain his documentary approach of Ai Weiwei’s trial.
