‘ARTAVAZD PELECHIAN’

2 + 3
Oct.'15

Armenian filmmaker and editing genius Artavazd Peleshyan (1938) will present for the first time in Brussels his most representative works. The films of this great representative of the Soviet school of cinema, thirteen in number, combine archive footage with documentary about everyday life, music, and sound effects. The result is a kind of silent cinema that is nonetheless oriented towards the future, at once poetic, experimental, and humanist. Condemned to obscurity for political reasons, his films were only discovered belatedly, thanks to key cinema figures and institutions such as the Rotterdam Film Festival, the critic Serge Daney, and Jean-Luc Godard, who regarded Artavazd Pelechian as "the greatest film-maker in the world".
