‘Alexis Paul & Nino Nakeuri’

26 Oct.'23
- 21:00

This season, Georgia is the cultural highlight in Belgium. In the exhibition The Avant-garde in Georgia (1900-1936), the Palace pays tribute to some of its multidisciplinary artists. During the nocturne on 26 October, Bozar invites Georgian singer and accordionist Nino Nakeuri and French composer and organist Alexis Paul. The duo, performing together for the first time on a stage especially for this occasion, will engage in a cross-cultural dialogue, combining the sounds of two traditional folk instruments – the accordion and the barrel organ – with singing. The musical performance broadens Georgian folklore into experiments with sound and breath. A meeting at the heart of musical poetics, between tradition and contemporary creation.

21:00-22:00 Concert: Nino Nakeuri (voice and accordion) and Alexis Paul (barrel organ) Hall Horta

Nino Nakeuri was born in Georgia and grew up in a family of musicians. She has taken part in numerous international festivals at home and abroad. In Georgia, she is known as one of the most famous folk artists of Eastern Georgia and one of the few performers of the traditional Garmoni accordion.

Alexis Paul is a French composer and musician. His work is characterised by a homogeneous form of poetic intent. He is interested in music as a 'tool' and his most recent projects, which revolve around the use of a barrel organ, have taken him to many countries to collaborate with traditional musicians as well as various sound artists. He founded the Belle Arché Lou and Saudaá groups, and collaborates with artists such as Wassim Halal, Júlia Lerner, Sogol Mirzaei, Hraïr Hratchian and Layale Chaker.
