‘Within: Concert #3’

Tarek Atoui’s project, Within, unfolds in two parts: the open workshop where novel musical instruments are made, but also a series of concerts that brings this research to life and explores the acoustic relationship between an instrumentarium and the space in which it is used. The Kunstenfestivaldesarts and Tarek Atoui are inviting musicians from Brussels and beyond to play these prototype instruments using scores or free improvisation, starting from the practices of deep listening and sound massage. Each concert is a unique performance that hones and tricks the audience’s senses. Tarek Atoui’s sound pieces are also rooted in a social and political reality; technology and composition are engaged like catalysts of identity and individual expression. Together the workshop and concerts in Within create a fascinating experience that makes us listen to the world in an entirely different way.
