la vie, à la mort - Pour toujours is a heart-warming family show about the beauty of bereavement and the inseparable love that goes with it. The Belgian National Orchestra brings comfort and joy with orchestral music by Purcell, Kachaturian and Saint-Saëns, arias by Mozart and Thomas and music by Sinatra and Brel.
“Do you believe in life after death?”
“Yes,” says Anna, “it makes me feel less scared.”
“Oh, then I believe in it too,” says Emile.
Together, Anna and Emile create their own world. A world in which Anna’s grandmother and Emile’s father meet. The grandmother and father laugh and smile, cry and feel boredom, but above all, they live. Forever. The dad lives in the sparkle in Emile’s eyes and the grandmother in the aroma of freshly baked cake.
With À la vie, à la mort, singer and designer Helene Bracke aims to forever put an end to the taboo of grief and loss. The physical actor Anatoli Akerman (Cirque du Soleil, Circus Roncalli and Walt Disney), with his mastery of clowning, strikes an excellent balance between suffering and entertainment, grief and yawning.
