International Première Zwarte Ibis & Black History Month Belgium Talk
For the soft launch of Black History Month Belgium (BHMB) 2024, Som•m•e Of Us for BHMB presents the international premiere of "Zwarte Ibis" (Black Ibis) by the collective Black Speaks Back.
The short- feature film portrays a young Black woman’s quest for intimacy in a world where the boundaries between the individual and the collective, the political and the personal, the past and the present, become ever blurrier. This poetic reverie is an afro-surrealistic imagination of contemporary notions of relationships with oneself and with imagined communities, challenging imposed views on Black intimate lives.
Following the screening, delve into the talk "Who Gets To Dream," exploring diverse meanings of 'dream' for Black communities across arts, activism, and organizing. Moderated by Latifah Abdou (WeDecolonizeVUB), featuring Philsan Osman (UGent, Black History Month Belgium), Eric Cyuzuzo (cultural curator) and Emma-Lee Amponsah, film director, and founding member of Black Speaks Back Collective, dedicated to amplifying multidimensional Black narratives.
