La Cabale des oursins - Luc Moullet / Brussels, 2016 - Sara Sejin Chang (Sara van der Heide)

In the presence of Éléonore Saintagnan and Sara Sejin Chang (Sara van der Heide)

Ouessant is the most westerly island off the furthest tip of Brittany. The final French frontier before America... In the past, all the men who lived there worked at sea, as fishermen or sailors, and as a result the island was almost exclusively populated by women. Éléonore Saintagnan decides to immerse herself in this strange land by delving into the archives. Dream and reality intermingle as she identifies with Barba, Une Fille de Ouessant, whose father was lost at sea without a trace. How is it possible to grieve in such circumstances? Between holiday movie, anthropological documentary and fiction, Une Fille de Ouessant takes the form of an ethnographic tale.

Two other films selected by Éléonore Saintagnan will precede Une Fille de Ouessant. They too focus on the themes of exploration and reinventing reality: La Cabale des oursins, Luc Moullet’s guided tour of the slag heaps of Northern France and Belgium, and Brussels, 2016, a poetic political portrait of the capital, made by Sara Sejin Chang (Sara van der Heide) during her residence at WIELS in spring 2016.
