Músicas Criollas in dialogue with the music of Africa, America and the Caribbean
A Sea of Music honours the more than 25 million victims who were deported and enslaved by European nations over nearly four centuries, from 1492 to 1888 (the year slavery was abolished in Brazil). Jordi Savall surrounds himself with talented artists, including the Mexican group Tembembe and musicians from Cuba, Haiti, Brazil, Mali and Venezuela. Together, they perform music from their rich musical traditions and allow them to dialogue with Spanish and European musical forms. This programme aims to keep the memory of this human tragedy alive through music and lyrics, as a memento of one of the bleakest pages in our history.
