‘A Traveler's Needs - Hong Sangsoo’

After In Another Country (2012) and Claire's Camera (2018), Isabelle Huppert returns to the Hong Sangsoo universe in the role of Iris, an unconventional French language teacher that drifts into the lives of a young woman, a married couple and a young man.

Hong Sangsoo’s direction, combined with one of Huppert’s most enigmatic performances, delivers a fascinating and moving cinema experience about the transformative effects of language, poetry and sincerity. A melancholic story rich in ambiguity. The film was awarded the Berlinale’s Silver Bear Grand Jury Prize in 2024.

For two weeks, Bozar offers an extensive programme consisting of nine films featuring some of Hong Sangsoo's earliest works and a selection of the films he made in his most recent years. Hong Sangsoo first gained attention in 1996 with The Day a Pig Fell into the Well. Over the years, he has earned numerous international awards. Besides being a professor of screenwriting and directing in Seoul, he remains one of the most inventive and prolific filmmakers in contemporary cinema.
